Fangirls Gone Wild

FAKEDon’t you just hate it when you’re looking at some really awe-inspiring fan art when all of a sudden out pops some yaoi? To all you lucky un-initiated out there, yaoi is anime/manga and even mainstream cartoon pairings of two “bishie” male characters either engaged in light petting/embraces to downright 3x porn (hentai).

I would like to say this right now and upfront: I DO NOT HATE YAOI! JUST DUMB FEMALE FANGIRLS WHO THINK “OMGTHAZSOCUTE!!!!!!!! THEY’RE HOLDING HANDS *SQEAL*” YAOI HAS ITS PLACE FOR GAY ANIME/MANGA FANS. I REPEAT: HATE=DUMB FANGIRLS AND FAN YAOI.

In my opinion, fan yaoi is revolting, especially since it’s drawn almost entirely by rabid straight fangirls. I believe that yaoi and yuri might help our gay/ lesbian/bi-friends relate a little better to anime characters, but I also believe that you probably have to be gay/ lesbian/ bi/whatever to get that deeper appreciation for the work. So there may be a need and a place for this art; just not with me, especially when some otaku thinks that pairing two beloved male characters together is kawaii. I have nothing but love for all types of anime fans no matter who they are (‘cept clueless otaku/fangirls I reserve my pity for them).

A few words on this subject addressed to yaoi lov’n fangirls: Why the hell would you, a straight/bi/whatever woman (more than likely a recently pubescent girl) think that two guys kissing or going at it is hot? Why!? Do you have any idea how messy hetro sex is, let alone gay sex? Triple that, and *gah*, I’m not equipped to comprehend the attraction. I have tried and tried to wrap my mind around thi-are you girls just kinky, nasty lil’ creatures who think the more goo the better? If so, just say, “I love gay porn” and be done with it, cause that’s all most yaoi really is. It’s not cute, it’s P-O-R-N. Even if they’re just holding hands, ew, it’s still gay and you’re not. Don’t even bother saying that you like yaoi because of the story, we know better (almost every image I see when I type in yaoi show two dudes about to make contact or just have). You’re not a gay man, how the hell would you even know or comprehend how gay men interact?

Another thing, why the bleeding hell do you yaoi fans turn straight characters into raging queens who can’t get enough man-love? And why, oh why, do you especially get off on yaoi that’s incestuous? For example, I was perusing a young female artist’s work, and though I was impressed with her style I wanted to vomit out my ass when I saw pics of Dante and Virgil from “Devil May Cry” bonking each other. What did they ever do to you? Or, you take characters that are sworn enemies and make them into doe eyed lovers, usually with the more blatant “manly” character as the submissive. Oh god, I’ve seen Harry Potter yaoi with Harry Potter and Draco Malfoy!! Why!! What crack pipe was big enough to hold the amount of meth you obviously had to smoke to come up with that?

The true tragedy of yaoi fan art is that a good number of you artists are extremely, extremely talented: here are some links to prove it (WARNING: some of what you’re about to see may be disturbing to sensitive viewers. Please be advised that some images may be graphic and have the potential to scar you forever).

You artists just waste it on borderline/100% porn and then try to excuse yourself by saying it’s “aaahhhhh-ddooor-able”. Fess up and admit that you’re a pervert distorting anime and manga who absolutely loooovvvves gay porn. Nothing wrong with being a pervert, just own up to it and quit calling it cute.

I do love almost all aspects of Japanese culture and try to be involved with it as much as possible. I have no problem admitting that I incorporate a lot of Japanese trends and traditions into my life as I modify them and make them my own. Anime is a big part of that, along with all the sub-cultures, past and present.

I as the first to comment and daring enough to comment think this has got to be the funniest thing I’ve ever read in regard to yaoi. You may be right, we are obsessed and love to read yaoi and some men on men action every once in a while is fun to read. The girls who say it’s just cute are kind of weird, if you like it then just admit it. I was one of those chics a while back ago but now I admit I love it.

Yes I am insane! I have probably done all the things you depise about yaoi fangirls thus far, such as take the liberty of writing fanfics with guys who are mortal enemies and instead make them lovers (DNAngel in particular DarkxKrad).

And why do we like it? I don’t really even know. If you wnat us to say it then fine. I love gay porn. there, that wasn’t so hard. and no were not gay ourselves, we just enjoy seeing other men be! bwahahahaha!

I don’t think any girl (or person) who has ever said they’ve read any manga of any kind just for the story is telling the truth either. That’s why we all buy it for the pictures right? Who ever told you that I apologize.

Now the Harry PotterxDraco Malfoy thing I can’t really comprehend. I will admit I read a fanfic with that pairing but it had my other fav pairing in it so I just read it for that. (yes DarkxKrad again)And the incest is just icky. (angel sanctuary? o_O)

But the one thing you can’t get that is driving me insane is that you can’t let any think it’s just cute. Heck yes it’s cute, whoever reads it will tell you that. Their not going to sex stores to buy gay porn, they buy it because no one will have talk with them because of what they chose to read. (unless their parents somehow manage to find it or `want to see what your reading and what is so interesting`)That is why I keep mine at school safely in my locker where no one gives a crap.

Oops didn’t get to finish earlier. So there you have it were not wild or crazy we just love our yaoi. (gay porn, whateveryou classify it as.) And I also give kudos to those who can even get it published. Whoa that’s got to be something weird trying to tell your editor and publishing company.

Thanks for letting me comment, and I hope this inspires others to comment to you too, a month with no one to say any thing is crazy. Don’t think were scared to admit because of that either! It just takes a while.

You are truly a brave woman and deserve respect for owing up to liking gay porn. A little hentai now and again never killed anyone as long it wasn’t presented under another guise. I have tried and tried to understand the attraction to yaoi and can understand wholeheartedly why women get all weak in the knees around the likes of Alucard and Kadaj…but make them kissing and ,huh, you lost me. Wouldn’t it be nicer to imagine that it were you making out with a character and not some other dude?

  4. DrmChsr0

I like yaoi. It’s hilarious. Being unable to hold in your poop after a rampant buttsechz session is just hilarious.

Also, I have seen Kuso Miso Technique in it’s entirety when It was online.

    And yes, I am male.

I have to say that I don’t see anything wrong with yaoi. I love to watch and read it because it’s fun. Yes, I’m a big big big fan of yaoi and even though some girls get a little crazy over it, I don’t. Some people thinks that its revolting and dirty especially when it comes to girls watching it. Personally I’ll tell them to just shut up because it is non of their damn business what other people do. I tell my friends that if they don’t like it then don’t say shit around me about it and shut up because I don’t judge them when they watch their stuff. I’m not afraid like some people to go to the stores and buy them or the conventions. Sometimes just to piss people off I would go to the store and pick up a yaoi manga and I will stand there and read it. Ha Ha Ha

It’s so funny to watch the expressions on people’s faces when they ask me what I’m reading and I tell them. Anyway, I love it and people shouldn’t be afraid if they like yaoi, after all we are all humans.

@L, My main gripe with yaoi culture are the girls who get crazy when it comes to their yaoi. I have nothing against porn; gay, straight, bi, midget, etc.

Hell, I like porn (not yaoi, lolicon, or yuri) but I refuse to use secret code words like “boy love” or “lolicon” If boy love=yaoi and yaoi=gay porn then shouldn’t boy love=gay porn? Sure, call Japanese manga that are men luv’n men yaoi since that’s what the Japanese call it but porn isn’t cute or adorable.

Then there’s the slash and fan art…Why?! They weren’t originally gay or lovers! Gah!!

But that still doesn’t bother me nearly as much as the overall yaoi fangirl attitude towards people who don’t like yaoi. Just because someone doesn’t like yaoi doesn’t make them a homophobe. Would a gay man who doesn’t like straight porn be a heterophobe? Would a lesbian who doesn’t like gay porn with two men be a homophobe? That logic doesn’t wash.

If you like your yaoi, you’re absolutely entitled to luv’n it, just like any other red blooded American man or woman. I have no idea if you’re a crazy yaoi fangirl and wouldn’t until I met you. Love your porn, just don’t hate everyone else who doesn’t feel the same as you (and I don’t know if you do).

One year at Oni-Con, me and my friends were just drunk enough to play yaoi fest chicken. We all got front-row seats for yaoi fest, and the first to leave had to pay for more drinks later.

Luckily for us, Oni-Con’s first year was rocky, and they didn’t have any yaoi to show. So they screened Fruits Basket….

I don’t know what they meant by that.

  8. Kate

Hmmm… let me try and explain the yaoi fangirl psyche to you. Oh, yeah I am one, I like gay porn. I’m a pervert. Anyway, continuing…

I find yaoi to be absolutely hilarious. I take great enjoyment in reading about horny gay guys that emotionally act like girls. And the stories are full of so much angst and drama, and implausible situations. Well its just crack. Yaoi exists in its own land. Where rape is the ultimate confession of love, and all pretty attractive guys are gay and horny. And there are no rules about who is off limits to love. Absolutely horrible things when applied to the real world, but yaoiland isn’t the real world. So its not much of a stretch for girls to throw straight characters from normal animes into yaoiland. To many its just as entertaining to see characters they do know acting like girls. And why throw the masculine character into the submissive role? Cause its hella funny to see. Thats about all there is to it. Its not cause its plausible, but because its implausible.

And I think girls think two guys being intimate is hot, is no different from a guy thinking two girls intimate is hot. And calling it cute. Well lots of girls say that things they like are cute. Dunno, seeing cute guys romantically embraced in each others arms. Its an overload of cuteness. :)

“Hell, I like porn (not yaoi, lolicon, or yuri) but I refuse to use secret code words like “boy love” or “lolicon” If boy love=yaoi and yaoi=gay porn then shouldn’t boy love=gay porn?”

that’s because yaoi isn’t always porn, Sherlock. Some of the best selling titles have 0 sex scenes. It’s *fiction* that’s as unrealistic as other gay/het porn and romance in any form. And why the hell should these girl know how gay men interact? Do gay men have to pass some sort of test before they can write or draw lesbians and straight women?

Relax. Breath. Everything will be alright. People will always like stuff that you don’t like. There’s nothing you can do about it.

  10. Rachel

@omgpizza, would that make the titles with 0 sex scenes yaoi or shonen-ai? My understanding is that yaoi contains sex-scenes whereas shonen-ai focuses on the affection between two men. Isn’t Boys love the umbrella term for any anime/manga featuring homosexual characters, either in graphic or non-explicit scenarios? And isn’t yaoi explicit?

For me, yaoi, and anything featuring explicit sexual acts, is nothing but fanservice. I have no issue with fanservice, if people keep their “enthusiasm” to themselves and quit decrying others as “homophobes” for not getting on the yaoi bandwagon.

I can’t see how any title, where the end result is two (or more) of any gender ending up naked, can be some deep, meaningful manga or anime. It’s created and sold for a niche market (yaoi fangirls) within a niche market (anime) and to pretend it’s something more than it is (gay porn) would be like saying “Debbie Does Dallas” is a coming-of-age flick.

  11. omgpizza

you make the distinction now but in your last comment you said boy’s love=yaoi. Even if you do go with the definition of yaoi as being explicit, it’s still not the same was PWP smut. It CAN be PWP smut but it can also have the same fluffy romantic story of a shounen ai +explicit sex scenes. Do you still think it’s gay porn? If so I assume you also think of every chick flick with sex scenes as porn. Besides, when people talk about “yaoi fangirls” they mean girls who are into everything male/male that comes from Japan, not just the sex part. You said in the original post that girls liking guys holding hands is gross, no? I don’t get how you got from holding hands to porn.

I also don’t think many people think of yaoi as inherently deep and meaningful. People mostly think of it as a guilty pleasure. If they do think it’s automatically more profound than het then that’s pretty dumb.

  12. Rachel

@omgpizza, You make good points, which are well reasoned and I thank you for your patient replies.

I don’t think that chick flicks which have sex scenes are porn, as long as said sex scenes aren’t long drawn out and frequent and aren’t incredibly detailed with highly graphic content.

Yes, I did say that girls liking guys holding hands is gross. To clarify, since much has changed in the two years I wrote this post:

1.) I still don’t think yaoi is hot or cute, however, I don’t care who prefers what; yaoi fans aren’t hurting anyone by liking what they like. No one should ever be made to feel like an outcast for their personal preferences (as long as said personal preferences are legal and don’t involve children or animals)

2.) I have no idea what American fans are calling explicit stories mainly focused on depicting male/male graphic sex. I always thought that yaoi=gay porn and shonen-ai= affection. When I say yaoi, this is what I refer to.

3.)In talking about fangirls gone wild, I should also lump into that category any fan of either gender of any graphic content who profess said love loudly and obnoxiously to one and all. I steer clear of anyone who claims to be an overt fan of porn. That’s way too much information for me. Don’t care what anyone does legally in the privacy of their own home, but I prefer not to know what someone does do in their own home.
