I finished watching volume two of the new Hellsing Ultimate Volume 2 OVA last night and I’m impressed thus far. For those who are into the former Hellsing series and the manga that inspired it, this new OVA is nothing new but it’s still really good.
As with the Hellsing Ultimate Volume 1 OVA, the series is taken almost page by page from the manga. Volume two of the OVA is basically volume two of the manga with the minor reshuffling of a key scene from volume four. A few new scenes have been added in the fight sequences, but their addition is so trivial that it’s only a slight deviation from the story. Volume two stops short of telling the entire tale of the manga by one chapter.
PRODUCTION
You can really see the time, money and effort the studio poured into this thing. The production value is actually higher than the first series and I thought that was pretty damn high. It’s the lil’ details that make this series shine so far; the gleam off of Seras Victoria’s Harkonnen, the reflection in Jan’s lip ring, the perfectly limned figure of Alucard as he prepares to serve up some pain for Luke, is fantastic.

COLOR
The color palette maintained most of the original series tones, but this time around the colors seem richer and deeper. The covers for the manga, which are in color, aren’t as rich as the series colors, so I’m glad they didn’t go with the manga’s colors.
MUSIC
Music-wise, I’m withholding my judgment until I’ve listened to it all as a body of work. The music was written for the entire series overall and not piece by piece. Thus far the music seems a bit more orchestral than Yasushi Ishii’s soundtrack – which totally rocked out. It remains to be seen as to whether a more orchestral score is good or bad.
I’m really looking forward to how the series will treat the “new†material that wasn’t in the original series. I kinda thought the old series petered out after they deviated from the manga. So the next volume is something that will be jam packed with action and surprises for those who just watched the series and didn’t read the manga!

excuse me! could u help a fellow hellsing fan? where did u find the second volume of the new ova and can i purchase it?
In Japan, it is already out. In North America, it is expected to be available for purchase sometime next year (2007) from Geneon.
I would love to see some AxI (Alucard and Integra) action, not to deep though, maybe a kiss or two, a flirt here and there, that’d be awesome. Like Kohta Hirano quoted,”They’re relationship is Master and Servent and thats just the type of twisted love they can have”
ARE WE GOING TO SEE THAT “TWISTED LOVE” IN OVA?!?!?!?! HUH!?!?!??! lol please e-mail me on your opinion.
No. Way. Icky to the max -Knox. There should be NO love in the OVA at all. If it’s in the manga a little down the ways, fine. I’m sure Hirano would treat it well enough that it wouldn’t be a noticeable distraction but don’t quote me on that :3. Thus far in the manga, no love for anybody (like I’d tell you if there was and ruin the OVA).
I HATED the way they made Seras all gooey eyed for Alcuard in the original series. What crap that was lemme tell ya. It always seemed like Alucard turning Seras was just something to alleviate his boredom and not cuz he wanted a devoted slave. Nope, it always seemed to me that Alucard wanted a peer instead of a lover. At least that’s what I got that from the manga.
As for AxI; I hope not but I’d rather see Integra on Alucard action than Seras on Alucard action any day. Yeck.
Awwwwwww :’( I totally agree though, I don’t like how they portrayed Seras in the original anime, her and Alucard would never make a good match. Anyway I hope there is at least some sign of AxI, Don’t get me wrong I’m all for blood, guts, and seeing Alucard act Insane, its just I’m one of those AxI fans.
Hello again! A few months ago, I asked if I could quote your OVA 1 review on my Hellsing fansite. You said yes, so I did. And now, may I please quote from/link to your OVA 2 review? Thanks in advance for your time and trouble!
Sincerely,

Damage – yes indeed you may quote and link to the OVA 2 review! Thanks for asking!
And thanks for reading!
ive read all the manga till volume 8 and have seen the first 2 ovas. one qualm i have is that in the previous series they explored more of seras past and the loneliness she suffered having ‘ turned’. they only briefly hint in a flashback that her parents were killed by vampires in this new ova series. i will wait to see and i hope they will explore it as i grew to appreciate seras a bit more because of the first series (actually they may be relying on the fact that fans hav seen the first series).
all i ask is that they don’t make seras sound pathetic in the english dub..the constant ‘ your not/he’s not, human’ lines were really cheesy! all in all i loved the second ova and i think of the manga its one of my faves. jan valentine added a bit of tongue in cheek to the very serious english acting.,,peace-yo!
I’m not with you on Seras’ lonely bit -Moin. Screw that noise, let’s get to the juicy bits with Millenium. I’m not really a violent person, but I love Hellsing because of its excessive use of “action”.
The story’s good but no more side trips down Seras’ memory lane. If I wanna know about anyone it would be Alucard and Hirano is playing that one pretty close to the chest; which is disappointing so far.
How did Alucard become Hellsing’s vampire slayer and monkey puppet is what I wanna know, not Seras’ loneliness and struggle with being a nigh indestructible and immortal creature with mind blowing powers. Cry me a river Seras! What’s in the manga is good enough for me.
Read vol.8 of the manga, that explains a little more of how Alucard became Hellsing’s servant.
Alucard and Integra!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Best pair ever! AxS SUCKS!!!!! IXM SUCKS!!!! AxI all the waaaaaay!!!!!!!!!
Errrr…IxM? Hold up, lemme re-check the manga…Ewwww! Did you mean Integra x Maxwell -lorcan? Not right. I only thought that type of twisted attraction only went on in yaoi. At least I suppose we agree that IxM sucks.
I’m actually hoping that no real romances occur with Alucard, betraying my girly nature.
In Vol.9, Alucard makes the comment ‘Just my beloved Master, just my beloved Servant’ continuing to say he’s happy that they’re all his, and that he’s the only one with claims to them now. I’m really hopeful that its just him being possessive of those closest to him, and that it stays this way.
Sigh…. Girly nature….(Ack!)
The ONLY romance that needs to semi-occur in the OVA is Alucard and Integra. AxI Fans over kill any other type of “so called” fan pairing. Why wouldn’t Kouta Hirano throw a little bit of AxI in there for his fans.
And do NOT mistake it that “The Entire OVA HAS to HAVE ROMANCE” Fluff Sucks anyway. I mean what would HELLSING be without Blood, Gore, Guts and Glory – nothing. Im just saying, Hirano should be a nice guy and throw some AxI into the picture before he totally ends HELLSING by MID-2008.
-Phishie, please oh please no spoilers! >< It’s just one line, yes, but now my imagination is working OT. Volume 8 won’t hit stateside translated for god knows how long and Volume 9 is too distant to even think about…
