Paprika Opens Big On Two Screens In New York City

Sounds like Paprika is off to a great (limited release) start!

Satoshi Kon’s Paprika

Satoshi Kon’s Paprika, which opened on Friday, May 25 2007 on two screens in New York City, took in an estimated US$35,600 from Friday to Sunday, and a total of US$45,600 over the four-day weekend.

These figures give Paprika the second-best per-screen average for either period, after Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End. For comparison, Kon’s Perfect Blue took in US$9,600 (on one screen) in its US opening weekend, while Millennium Actress brought in US$18,732 (six screens). The opening-weekend gross of Tokyo Godfathers was US$37,127, but that film opened in eight theaters.

I love anime. Specifically, series involving any of the following things: weird fantasy elements, super-powers, robots, aliens, wicked humor, crazy villains, horror, ninjas and samurai. I guess that means I like a lot of anime.
