I do love almost all aspects of Japanese culture and try to be involved with it as much as possible. I have no problem admitting that I incorporate a lot of Japanese trends and traditions into my life as I modify them and make them my own. Anime is a big part of that, along with all the sub-cultures, past and present.

That’s funny because I’ve read some reviews where they say that Witchblade was made with an American audience in mind. Goes to show you a bit about ourselves, right? :)

That is an amazingly scary amount of boobies…

@Professional Rambler, What kind of Americans did they have in mind? I mean, I can’t honestly think of anyone here who would think that this is anything but porn. I showed the cover of this to a friend and she thought it was porn. And what kind of American mainstream anime fans will like Witchblade? I’m thinking this was pitched as borderline hentai and fans of that genre are who this show will probably mainly appeal to.

@MK, I get nauseous every time I look at all that boobage. I just think it’s way, way too much if this anime wants to be taken seriously.

Professional Rambler – Yes it says a lot about America, lol.

MK – You are not kidding. Witchblade proves that there can be too much of a good thing! O.o

Rachel – That’s because you were never a 14 year-old boy. If you were, you’d probably looove Witchblade. Never underestimate the power of boobage on the public. ^_^

Actually, aside from the boobage, the licking, and the barely there costumes, there’s not too much that I would say pushes this toward hentai territory. In fact, I thought a lot of the episodes were sort of bland, possibly overly cute and focusing more on the mother/daughter dynamic and the daughter’s perseverence, almost becoming the caretaker of her irresponsible mother. Take the whole episode with the french bread, or whatever that was.

I guess you could say it’s borderline Ecchi in places, but given that the fights only come across once in every two or three episodes, I would hardly say that titilation is its only purpose.

That said, I’m still waiting for this series to become what was touted. The action sequences are cool, but nothing on par with thety hyperkinetic Afro. The story? Well, I guess it is using American comics as a jumping off point…. I’m just not quite sure what this series is trying to be.

That last sentence should read “Like you,I’m just not quite sure what this series is trying to be.”

Ok, does anyone remember reading the original witchblade series, or one of its clones such as fathom? I’m sure japanese artist thought “they must want hentai!” that being said, give the series some time and see what comes of it. I love fathom but it took forever for its plot to come out, lets hope this is the same.
