The latest anime news:
- Recently, there was a Smithsonian showing of Tokyo Godfathers and a preview of Paprika…I believe that David had a post about this event a few weeks ago. Tokyopop.com’s Bill Aguiar was able to interview the director Satoshi Kon.
- For all you anti-sports fans, Del Rey will be releasing an anti-sports manga by Ai Morinaga called My Heavenly Hockey Club on May 29th, 2007.
Eureka 7 fans in the US will get to see the finale re-aired on Saturday, May 5, 2007 (morning of May 6, 2007) at 1am (I am guessing EDT). Here is the full blurb from Anime News Network:Follow-Up: Adult Swim to Rerun Eureka 7’s Finale
Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim staffer Merrill Hagen posted on its website Monday evening that Eureka 7’s last episode will re-air on the evening of Saturday, May 5, 2007 (morning of Sunday, May 6, 2007) at 1 a.m. According to Hagen, “Kim [Manning, Adult Swim program/scheduling manager,] pulled some strings to have it rebroadcast. Some of you may still have some issues with it, but this is the best that we are allowed to show. I hope you guys know that we would never butcher a show just to mess with you.” Adult Swim is also exploring a possible rerun on the Adult Swim Fix streaming service.
2007-04-30 20:41 EDT.- It looks like Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Aso is continuing with his “manga diplomacy“. This also from Anime News Network:
Japan Brings Barefoot Gen to Non-Proliferation Event
The Japanese government is presenting Barefoot Gen, the semiautobiographical manga by atomic bomb survivor Keiji Nakazawa, at a Vienna, Austria meeting on the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. Japan is urging every government and non-governmental organization there to read 30 English-translated copies at the first preparatory committee meeting for the 2010 Review Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons from April 30 to May 11. Foreign minister Taro Aso is a well-known manga fan who has officially used manga before. Ambassador Yukiya Amano is chairing this meeting. Source: Chunichi Shimbun, 2007-04-30 10:29 EDT.
