I like anime forums; they’re fun, they let us express are gripes and our likes, let us discuss the latest trends, the way the industry is going, yadda, yadda, yadda. What I don’t like is when some troll or quasi-troll up and ruins a perfectly good and legit thread with some jack-ass comment. Sure, I commend that you’re using your freedom of speech but what a way to do it. One post in particular pissed me right the hell off, beyond measure.
This one came straight off the ACen boards (a year ago apparently) NOT FROM ME:
And if you want to make arguments about the military, look at Japan. Their entire society, young and old alike, embrace the culture of “supercute.” Why? It’s because the society is composed of pigion-toed emotionally immature closet perverts. Why? Because Japan has no national military.
Look, I’m not making this stuff up. This is coming from college professors with PhD’s and what-have-you. Though I don’t entirely agree with it, it brings up some good points about Japan’s society and those in our society that choose to embrace it as a way of delaying the social and emotional responsibilities that come with maturity.
Of course there are exceptions. You can like anime and still be a “strong” individual. But I’m talking about the majority of “kids” (young and old) in America that are trapped by the vise-grip of emotional immaturity brought on by blind alligiance in Japanese culture (or “counter-culture”, *yawn*).
We must not forget that I am posting this as an Amine fan myself. The only difference between you and me is that I am willing to be honest with myself.
And before that one:
Proof once again that Japan’s emotionally immature society is further manipulating the weakest and meekest of American youth.
Wow. Just wow. I’m not going to post this person’s name solely for the reason that they do not in any way deserve the attention they’ve already been given, but their names rhymes with Tagbaggar. Oh, and just ’cause I care, here’s a link to the original discussion so you can view this comment in its awesome original contextual glory:
Yeah, about the above, hmmm, I didn’t comment on the original thread because the perpetrator was already banned and what the hell is the point in bitching when the person isn’t there to be bitched at?
But my thoughts on what was said are as follows;
I can’t say whether or not most anime fans are emotionally immature and I won’t be caught dead issuing a blanket statement like that (for once) without having met at least a third of a wide demographic of anime fans and had lengthy discussions with their friends, lovers, parents, co-workers and most importantly therapists
How many real life actual Japanese people has this person truly met to give yet another blanket statement about their affection for the “supercuteâ€, and what is their definition of supercute anyway? I know some people that think spiders are “supercuteâ€, and while I think some spiders are cool, I don’t think they’re cute.
Opinions, people, are what make us different and unique, but they do not make you right, they do not make me wrong, nor do they entitle you to shoot your mouth off arbitrarily in a forum and insult an entire nation. I appreciate freedom of speech, I also appreciate that our actions have consequences for the better and the worse. This is an example of the worse. It’s the whole “reap the whirlwind” thing.
Just keep something in mind when you post on forums and the like: Don’t put it there if you wouldn’t say it to someone’s face. Can you imagine this person saying this to some strapped Japanese guy who’s into anime, ohhhh, I don’t think so. You never know who’ll read what you wrote and hold you to it.
I’m 100% for throwing out some dicey subject into a forum and dissecting and rebuilding it in the issuing arguments, but there is NEVER any need to A.)Get personal unless you personally know them or they have, through their overt actions, proved time and again that they’re worthy of such treatment or B.) Insult people who aren’t even there to defend themselves.
Geezus, restraint is the only think that keeps us from killing each other in the streets, show some every now and again….
