The September issue of Anime Insider (Issue 60) is now out. This month’s cover story is about the worst adaptation ever Live Action Death Note Movie. There’s a lot of better stuff though, like a cool interview with singer Shoko Nakagawa, a wrap-up of Anime Expo 2008 and an update on the CG Astroboy Movie.

My best part of this issue was the news about my fave artist Junko Mizuno’s Spiderman Project. Somehow, I missed out on the initial announcement back in June!
Aawww. Why did you cross out “worst adaptation ever” ?
I admit I didn’t see the first one, but I saw the second one and for the first time in my life in all my years of seeing movies at a cinema, I nearly walked out of it 10 minutes into the movie. It was embarrassingly bad.
For the Deathnote Live action:
The graphics were amazing.
Everything else failed. Royally.
nckl – Live Action Death Note was indeed a painful experience for me (and Rachel) too. By crossing out “worst adaptation ever, I figured it wouldn’t totally upset any of the super-fans. You’ll get to hear what Rachel really thought of it sometime soon!
conankudo4 – I liked some of what they did with the character animation for Ryuk and Rem. Unfortunately, the compositing was a bit ‘off’ and they didn’t look photo-realistic. The Shinigami Realm scenes look top-notch, but that’s because everything was CG. If the whole movie had been done that way, Ryuk would have been awesome!
Deathnote Live action: I like the graphics too
I thought the live action movies were great..I mean sure the second one lost it (a lot) through the poorly translated subtitles which in some cases were funny…..but I saw them before I had started watching the anime, I think the actor that played L did a better job then the anime did….anyway that’s my personal opinion
