The anime-styled Batman: Gotham Knight website is now operational! See Batman in all his anime glory! The DVD hits on July 8, 2008. There’s some interesting stuff on the site, however I was disappointed that the downloads section isn’t yet live. Anyway, the bat-widget has the full trailer and lets you add it to your own website/social network.
So what do you think about a mainstream anime-style Batman film? Will it generate additional interest in anime, kinda like the anime-style Matrix film The Animatrix did?
I love anime. Specifically, series involving any of the following things: weird fantasy elements, super-powers, robots, aliens, wicked humor, crazy villains, horror, ninjas and samurai. I guess that means I like a lot of anime. I am pretty particular about the quality of animation and voice acting. If the character designs and animation quality aren't of über-quality, I quickly loose interest. The first anime-related series I ever watched was Battle of the Planets - otherwise known as Gatachman. The first true theatrical anime feature film I saw was Akira. My first exposure to manga was later in life when I read Osamu Tezuka's Astro Boy.There are so many incredible elements of Japanese culture. Some of the most exciting to me are the style of design and storytelling. I'm a web designer & illustrator, and I find myself looking to Japanese design for inspiration all the time.Anime blogging has taught me even more about Japanese culture and anime than I ever expected, and I continue to learn more every week. In fact, I'd love to travel to Japan. Rachel and I hope to visit sometime within the next few years.
Yes, it is the same style as The Animatrix… I saw it, but it is not very my style… I mean the style of animation, where the persons look too tall and thin. It is so unnatural to me…
I watched it online at http://www.fluffypress.com/tv-movies/batman-gotham-knight , to tell the truth its not that great. Nevertheless, american aint it?? HAHAA. The main reason was just to see how american idea and japanese drawing goes together.
Susan – What did you think about the stories in ‘Batman: Gotham Knight’?
Indo – Did you have any major likes/dislikes? I’d recommend picking up the dvd – it’s a much better experience with high-quality sound and video. Plus, there are a few cool extras. I’m actually a little behind on a review of the disk.
