Bootleg Live Action Dragonball Trailer
UPDATED:If I had to sum up my thoughts on the trailer in one word, it would be ‘underwhelmed’. I am biased when it comes to the Dragonball franchise – there’s something about it that I’ve never been able to ‘get’. So it’s no suprise that I’m not too excited about the movie after seeing the bootleg trailer footage.
For those of you who are super Dragonball fans, what do you think about it after seeing the bootleg trailer?
I love anime. Specifically, series involving any of the following things: weird fantasy elements, super-powers, robots, aliens, wicked humor, crazy villains, horror, ninjas and samurai. I guess that means I like a lot of anime. I am pretty particular about the quality of animation and voice acting. If the character designs and animation quality aren't of über-quality, I quickly loose interest. The first anime-related series I ever watched was Battle of the Planets - otherwise known as Gatachman. The first true theatrical anime feature film I saw was Akira. My first exposure to manga was later in life when I read Osamu Tezuka's Astro Boy.There are so many incredible elements of Japanese culture. Some of the most exciting to me are the style of design and storytelling. I'm a web designer & illustrator, and I find myself looking to Japanese design for inspiration all the time.Anime blogging has taught me even more about Japanese culture and anime than I ever expected, and I continue to learn more every week. In fact, I'd love to travel to Japan. Rachel and I hope to visit sometime within the next few years.
Hmm, I don’t think it’s the first ever live action movie. That “honor” belongs to the chinese live action film. Still, I’ve never been a fan of the dragon ball show. This looks about on par with something like “warriors of virtue”
While it’s not exactly overwhelming, I have to ask if anyone really expected it to be? I mean, at this point people have really gotten sick of Dragon Ball and all it’s various iterations, so to say you’re underwhelmed is kind of unnecessary, yes? As far as movies meant to be aimed at the young teen set go, it doesn’t really look that bad. I’m sure it will be better than the sure to be god-awful Street Fighter movie that’s in production.
Chris – I’ve heard about the unofficial Chinese version. Have you seen it?
UncleHappy – I think you make a great point about my use of the word ‘underwhelmed’. I’ve revised my statement to a slightly more nuanced one.
freetriptojapan – Most of the bootleg trailers for Dragonball have been pulled by the studio, but hopefully we’ll get an official high-quality version soon.
[...] of the Dragonball live-action movie trailer has surfaced. The Anime Blog crew has found it and put it up for the masses to see. Gotta say, like them, I am quite underwhelmed… but then again I [...]
[...] Dragonball live action film…reports have been all over the place. There have been reshoots, pulled trailers and delays from it’s original August 15, 2008 release to April 3, 2009. Oh, and it’s [...]
I’m underwhelmed too.
