On July 1, 2006 Demashitaa! Powerpuff Girls Z (basically meaning “And They’re Off! Powerpuff Girls Z”) began airing in Japan. This ‘alternative’ version of the Cartoon Network show The PowerPuff Girls features anime versions of characters (Blossom, Buttercup, Bubbles and the rest of the citizens and villains of Townsville).
Now I’m a big fan of the original PowerPuff Girls show since it began on Cartoon Network waaay back in 1996 and I thought the movie was pretty cool. Will the new show have what it takes to live up to the original?
Show Direction?
I’m really interested to see what direction they take this series…will it focus on butt-kicking action and humor like the original, or will it lack those two essential ingredients?

Changes from the Original
The girls are also no longer sisters! Another unusual thing I noticed was that on the show, the girls are now 13 (rather than in kindergarten), have secret identities and use words to ‘transform’. Here’s their new ‘real names’ with the words they say to transform:
- Bubbles is now Miyako Goutokuji – “Rolling Bubbles”
- Blossom is now Momoko Akatsutsumi – “Hyper Blossom”
- Buttercup is now Kaoru Matsubara – “Powered Buttercup”

i love the orignal, and powerpuff girls z is ok,but i think its mediocre compareed to the orignal.PPGZ’s art design is very upscale(maybe because some of the creators from salior moon are directing it) but its humor is kinda off and the action is very low for my taste, plus they sometimes can go off topic, like the first episode for example when the girls were fighting mojo the suddenly stopped fighting and went to eat ice cream, i mean the orignals would kick mojo’s ass first then go for ice cream. but overall i like the show
its very cute, but im certain that it will never live up to the title of the powerpuff girls.

I think it will not live up to the original I seen all of them and its was made for japan to suit them better. It would b nice to see them fight with out the goofy weapons the girl in Z suck ass they look good but the personality is all wrong except for Buttercup.
I mean these girls usta be called the whoop ass girl they ain’t whoopin’ no ass they playin’ with it and when Could the professor get some ass the man was square!!! Thats y he created them. I don’t like the story I just want to see what they look like older and as a anime.
Oh and another thing the Rowdyruff Boys even suckd in this anime the original boys could destroy the world. The boyz in Z CAN’T EVEN FLY!!!!!! The boys from original could of killed the girls from Z and the boys where a whole lot meaner in the original the new boys are a bunch of push overs.
Too me the Z girls could die if it wasn’t for there stupid weapons and they can’t even fly fast just hover. I’m hoping that McCracken gets involved so he can restore the story and make this anime much better.

Eddie – interesting point. As an ‘old school’ fan of PowerPuff Girls, what do you think about the way they’ve treated Mojo Jojo in the anime? He’s one of my favorite characters from the Cartoon Network version, but I think he’s cool in the anime too.

I just now saw this show on youtube! I loved it! I really like what they did with the characters, cause I was kinda getting tired of the old Powerpuff Girls (man, it feels good to finally be able the say that about that show)! Steph, David, I think Bubbles is absolutely adorable! She is my all time favorite powerpuff girl. Then Buttercup, and Blossom!

i really love the oringnal powerpuff girls and i never got tired of it, but i always loved anime. powerpuff girls z is a combo of anime and powerpufff girls my two favroite things, but i havent heard anything about it airing in america. i heard something about it airing in tawain january 21 2008 but nonthing about america. that depresses me.
another thing though powerpuff girls z are not as good as the oringnal show. i hate the villans in the z show they are all retarded, and the bubbles and blossom personaitlys are wrong except for buttercup. before the show airs in america craig needs to redo it. i mean it was his idea.

I think the Powerpuff Girls Z show is really good, but it will never, ever, ever compare to the original. I garantee that. I think all the major things in the original is what made the show good. I mean think about, The Professor made them out of Sugar, Toys, and some green stuff! [Not forgetting about that very toxic Chemical X.] Then poof! “Thus the Powerpuff girls were born!” I think they should have maybe kept the whole story line going. It’ll be like “What Happened To The Powerpuff Girls Afterwards – Powerpuff Girls Z”. They could have new villians and keep some of the originals. It could be like they moved to Tokyo or something. New Mayor and Ms. Bellom. I think it sucks that The Professor has a son… I mean, apprentice[ I kidd.

I’m not pleased with it, to be honest. The whole “secret identity” thing turns me off big time. The character designs while “sexier” have none of the original charm of the original girls, and it just seems like a fly that the anime toads are gonna swallow and be done with pretty quick.
We already had a million different versions of Sailor Moon. Why do we need another?
ok… so i am a HUGE fan of the original version! it was my favorite show as a kid! and i just heard about PPGZ yesterday, so i watched some epsoides and i really liked it! i agree with some earlier posts about the story being a little bit messed up, but over all it is still AWESOME!!! i really hope it comes to the USA!!! is it really coming in 2009? cause if so, that would be great!!!
Well, I LOVE the original PPG more than the anime, just because it’s a child hood memory! But the PPGZ kicks ASS! I like the RRB better because frankily they look better, and, they aren’t as mean, meaning it would be easier for the PPGZ and RRB to be together <3!

When is the show coming to USA?
Good question. While Powerpuff Girls Z has been dubbed in English since it’s original airing in Japan, there hasn’t been any news for a while now.
I like both PPGZ and the original. PPGZ’s storyline is interesting and funny. Miyako/Bubbles is my favourite PPGZ. The villains are also cool, especially RRB. Even in PPGZ they can’t fly and not as powerful as the original, they’re still dangerous.
By the way, is there any new episodes for PPGZ? Is episode 52 the last episode? I wish I could see more episodes.
Episode 51 is the last episode, so there will not be any new episodes
