AICN Anime Recommends Baccano – Going into the new year, there is plenty of uncertainty regarding the immediate future of anime in North America. Who knows what new titles are going to be able to make it over? Who knows what distributors will still be around?
Who knows the role of digital distribution? That said, in terms of recommendations, I’d call Baccano the Ain’t It Cool News anime pick for 2009. Continue Reading at AICN.com
Baccano looks pretty good, but does it truly deserve to be compared to Cowboy Bebop and Quentin Tarantino?

I love anime. Specifically, series involving any of the following things: weird fantasy elements, super-powers, robots, aliens, wicked humor, crazy villains, horror, ninjas and samurai. I guess that means I like a lot of anime. I am pretty particular about the quality of animation and voice acting. If the character designs and animation quality aren't of über-quality, I quickly loose interest. The first anime-related series I ever watched was Battle of the Planets - otherwise known as Gatachman. The first true theatrical anime feature film I saw was Akira. My first exposure to manga was later in life when I read Osamu Tezuka's Astro Boy.There are so many incredible elements of Japanese culture. Some of the most exciting to me are the style of design and storytelling. I'm a web designer & illustrator, and I find myself looking to Japanese design for inspiration all the time.Anime blogging has taught me even more about Japanese culture and anime than I ever expected, and I continue to learn more every week. In fact, I'd love to travel to Japan. Rachel and I hope to visit sometime within the next few years.
That is high praise and also a bit of personal preference but I think the storytelling does make it, although the animation was a little sub-par.
I dont see the relevance of connecting Baccano with Bebop. I can see the comparison to Tarintino’s movie Pulp Fiction with the storytelling style of revealing certain stories to make a complete picture by the end of the series. There is also a good amount of violenence in both mediums of entertainment but that’s it.
-_- misspelled violence
Jarmel – Do you think it has the ’shelf life’ of Cowboy Bebop?
frog212 -So basically Baccano’s direction is closer to Tarintino than Cowboy Bebop director Shinichir? Watanabe?

That can’t be true!
Baccano is a fantastic anime, the best I’ve seen in several years. It’s both violent and complex, with sassy music, though outside of that there are few similarities to Cowboy Bebop. Baccano is shorter, with a much larger cast, and the episodes are all interconnected to form one plot arc, unlike Bebop’s episodes, the majority of which are standalone. That said, I think most Bebop fans will like Baccano as well. I can’t wait for Baccano to be released! It’s definitely worth checking out, I recommend it to anyone looking for a good time.
Baccano! is Baccano! Cowboy Bebop is Cowboy Bebop. But, both are great animes, of course.
Baccano was a very enjoyable animation. I honestly believe it is better than cowboy bebop and came close to even being as good as a Quentin Tarantino film. This psychotic story has everything from bloody violence to amazing humour and romance. The storyline is shown in such a way that the audience is drawn to it; if only to figure out what happens next. Although the ending seems like some regular anime crap, it makes you have your own opinion on what will happen next. This animation is worth wild….don’t miss it. If you can get the English Dub you should in my opinion the dub is 10/10. An achievement in animation that only Full Metal Alchemist has done for me. You would be a fool not to watch this. BACCANO!!
For all cowboybebop fans there is a message board that really hate us let represent.
