This just in: The upcoming ninja action film ‘Ninja Assassin‘ is not ‘Live Action Ninja Scroll Movie‘, lol. Apparently there was speculation that it was secretly a live action version of the anime. Well, according to AICN via several sources, it’s not (duh):
Wachowskis’ Ninja Assassin Apparently Not Ninja Scroll… ’cause WB’s Got the Scroll Rights
…Warner Bros. has acquired the rights to adapt “Ninja Scroll” into live action. The feature, which will be co-produced by Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way and Madhouse…Read the rest at AICN!
Of course, we all know how often ‘live action anime‘ comes up in Hollywood these days…so look forward to seeing it in theaters…um…never? Sigh…

Hollywood more and more has been becoming like a plague of locusts. Instead of making their own good content they have been moving from already made story to already made story, pumping it up with CGI, and advertising the s*** out of it and then selling it back to us and making a tidy sum in the process. It is only a matter of time before they run out of Hulk and Spiderman remakes and decide to ruin the great animes.
Hieronymus – You make a great point…and unfortunately, I don’t think Hollywood’s behavior will change in the next few years. Lately, they’ve continually taken the ‘easy way out’ with remakes, sequels, re-imaginings and adaptations of existing stories.
Many of those decisions are made by a bunch of studio executives who earned their MFA degree instead of being trained in film making. They lean towards properties with a perceived ‘built-in’ audience, which can often account for over 40% of the total box office. With the economy in trouble, there’s a good change we’ll just see more of the same thing.
But never fear, because even a year full of crappy movies, we got ‘The Dark Knight’, an incredible film that was well-rewarded with some crazy money this year! Although I guess it still fall within the whole ‘remake/sequel/adaptation’ category, lol. Oh well.
