Hieronymus - You make a great point...and unfortunately, I don't think Hollywood's behavior will change in the next few years. Lately, they've continually taken the 'easy way out' with remakes, sequels, re-imaginings and adaptations of existing stories.

Many of those decisions are made by a bunch of studio executives who earned their MFA degree instead of being trained in film making. They lean towards properties with a perceived 'built-in' audience, which can often account for over 40% of the total box office. With the economy in trouble, there's a good change we'll just see more of the same thing.

But never fear, because even a year full of crappy movies, we got 'The Dark Knight', an incredible film that was well-rewarded with some crazy money this year! Although I guess it still fall within the whole 'remake/sequel/adaptation' category, lol. Oh well. :)

Hollywood more and more has been becoming like a plague of locusts. Instead of making their own good content they have been moving from already made story to already made story, pumping it up with CGI, and advertising the s*** out of it and then selling it back to us and making a tidy sum in the process. It is only a matter of time before they run out of Hulk and Spiderman remakes and decide to ruin the great animes.
