God. I was looking forward to that movie. What a trainwreck!
Dwight Wannabe – A train wreck? Really? I think it looks exciting! As the first ‘big big’ budget Hollywood live action anime, it think it will be great for the industry next year.
And that’s not nostalgia talking. I didn’t grow up with the show and was never really into the show. I do, however like what The Wachowski Brothers™ can do when pushing the limits of technology, style and storytelling.
I guess we’ll see how it all turns out next summer!
@Dwight Wannabe, Here’s the thing about live-action anime: studios who try to create a LA anime movie which looks like Independence Day or the Bourne Identity aren’t making live action anime, they’re making a Western movie inspired by the story.
Anime as live-action only works if it’s as over the top as the original anime. Casshern is an excellent example of how anime as a LA movie should be.
I can’t speak as to whether Speed Racer is any good, seeing as how it’s not out yet. However, it looks like the Wachowski Brothers treated the series as it should be treated.
I did grow up with Speed Racer. Lived and breathed it.
I also love the Warchowski Bros.
I’m a new fan of Emile Hirsch.
I was chomping at the bit to see this movie. How could it miss?
ANSWER: Cheesy supporting cast and bad writing. The mere fact that it’s anime doesn’t engender a pass if it’s a dog. I’m routing for success, but based on that trailer… Dubious. VEEEEERY dubious.
