@J3nova, After finishing the series, I felt my predictions for its badness had been fulfilled. The fight scenes, as you so describe, were a huge letdown. And now that you mention it, we totally got gypped outta his devil form! Damn! I was so bored throughout the anime, I didn’t even think it.

Utter crap. i was so dissapointed with this and i expected more. the fight scenes are so poorly excecuted and its nothing like the DMC game. what happened to they stylistic fight scenes ? all we get to see was a few shots from his gun, a little slash and thats it.

He didn’t even DT at all. What happened to the devil form ? in the last battle he should at least change to a devil form like sparda.

It looks as though there’s an even amount of people who loved the Devil May Cry anime and the people who thought it sucked. It also looks as though the fans who liked this series, absolutely adored it.

I really think that you shouldn’t judge the anime based on the first episode because that’s where they start to introduce the characters. Your review is baseless. try going on watching it until the last episode. I am adamant on saying that the anime IS fantastic.

I just finished watching the first episode, and yuck. I’ll go with Rachel and Hyper here.

A lot of what I thought has already been said, but I just thought I’d add that Dante is a clone of Alucard from Hellsing, only with his emotional depth removed, but that’s a criticism of the franchise more than it is of the anime, I guess (Although, they even included a straight lift of that shot from Hellsing where Alucard cocks a pistol with his teeth, showing off his fangs!).

On the Cowboy Bebop comparison, I think there’s two major differences; one was that Cowboy Bebop took itself far, far less seriously than DMC (The fridge and mushroom episodes spring to mind…), and the other was that it actually tried to make you care *how* Spike was going to beat/catch the bad guy. Dante just wanders in, shoots some stuff…

Maybe that’s fixed in later episodes, but I’ve never seen an anime series where they put such a huge focus on fights that do absolutely nothing to advance the plot but neatly prove how bad-ass their character is. For a series that could have had so much dark style, the fights were DULL, and that’s unforgivable, even in a first episode.

I disagree with all of you who said the anime was bad. I thought the anime was fantastic. Iâ€™m not a diehard fan of DMC and i have never played the game. The plot was superb and the characters were natural. Dante is a tough guy and he did not seem flawless, he had his flaws he is not afraid to show it. The women were drawn like real women and not some skinny bimbos. True definition of tough cookies. Overall, the anime was fantastic. End of story.

PS: I ADMIT THAT THE EPISODES WERE TOO SHORT. THEY SHOULD’VE MADE IT A LITTLE LONGER. DANTE IS KINDA…HOT. XD

@radena, some fans of the series really liked the anime, but for me the anime was sub par and lacking in the plot department.

A plot is one of those things that should be front and center at all times, and not some after thought when the anime’s wrapping up.
