I just got done watching the brand spanking new Hellsing Ultimate Volume 1 OVA from Japan and although I was super excited and utterly thrilled to watch it I was a lil’ let done by where the OVA started up at in the Hellsing manga.
Just an FYI, the OVA starts off at the very beginning of Kohta Hirano’s original work, ignoring the Hellsing anime series. The first installment of the OVA encompasses the entire first volume of the manga. I was expecting it to take up sometime after the fifth episode of the anime, or after volume two of the manga; just when Seras starts to get accustomed to her new life. I’m guessing the OVA is pretending that the anime series never existed, which I suppose is OK for people who’ve never seen the series, but it makes me impatient to get to “new†material.
The Hellsing Ultimate Volume 1 OVA is very faithful to the manga, right up to the excessive amounts of blood and gore. The design is much more alike to the manga than the original anime, with the bits of weird spontaneous humor cropping up here and there. A few of the scenes in the OVA are abbreviated, maybe taking in to consideration people like me who want to get down to volume three and four of the manga.
All in all, it’s a good start to the OVA, especially the end – too cool – a taste of what’s to come.
