Tetsujin28 Soundtrack: Review

I just finished listening to the two-volume Tetsujin 28 anime series soundtrack. The music was composed by Akira Senju and released by Geneon Entertainment. Since we’re currently watching the anime series (we’re at episode 10), I thought it would be a great opportunity to check it out!

Tetsujin28 Anime Soundtrack Volume 01Overall, I really like both volumes of the soundtrack. The style of music took a little while to get used to. While I’m familiar with lots of different Japanese music, this one kinda threw me off-track. It has a very 1950s-era militaristic feel to it. You see, the Tetsujin 28 anime series (and manga) took place ten years after World War II. By choosing a very military style of music, Akira Senju has created a soundtrack that really helps give the story an appropriate tone.

Tetsujin28 Anime Soundtrack Volume 02In addition to military marches and adventurous style, the soundtrack also provides some variety by featuring some traditional Japanese music. While not as loud or adventurous as many of the tracks, they provide very nice moments between all the action.

This isn’t like any modern-day anime soundtracks that I can think of. But I guess the show isn’t either. Both the music style and the anime bring back a style from long ago – which I think is pretty refreshing!

Buy Tetsujin28 Vol. 1 / Buy Tetsujin28 Vol. 2

The Tetsujin28 soundtracks were provided for review by the fine folks at Geneon Animation. Thanks!

I love anime. Specifically, series involving any of the following things: weird fantasy elements, super-powers, robots, aliens, wicked humor, crazy villains, horror, ninjas and samurai. I guess that means I like a lot of anime. I am pretty particular about the quality of animation and voice acting. If the character designs and animation quality aren't of über-quality, I quickly loose interest. The first anime-related series I ever watched was Battle of the Planets - otherwise known as Gatachman. The first true theatrical anime feature film I saw was Akira. My first exposure to manga was later in life when I read Osamu Tezuka's Astro Boy.There are so many incredible elements of Japanese culture. Some of the most exciting to me are the style of design and storytelling. I'm a web designer & illustrator, and I find myself looking to Japanese design for inspiration all the time.Anime blogging has taught me even more about Japanese culture and anime than I ever expected, and I continue to learn more every week. In fact, I'd love to travel to Japan. Rachel and I hope to visit sometime within the next few years.
