@Andrew, I was also surprised at the uber quality of Death Note. I’m the type of gal who avoids overly popular movies, series, musicians, etc., since I think popularity= lowest common denominator. I didn’t watch Reservoir Dogs until 2004 because it was ridiculously popular when it first came out.

I was determined to read Death Note after it ended since it was over and done with, i.e. I didn’t have to wait for more volumes to come out, unlike Hellsing.

I’m really looking forward to reading this series!

I was extremely surprised at how well it was put together. I knew how popular Death Note was in Japan and I wrongly put it in the catagory of Bleach and Naruto. The first volume blew all preconcieved notions away. The dark story matter and moral ambiguity has been something Ive been looking for in manga for a long time, in any story for a long time. Now I need another paycheck to buy volumes 9 to 12. Cant wait!
