Hellsing Volume 7

hellsing manga volume 7After a long wait I got my copy of the Hellsing Volume 7 manga!!! Woohoo! AND, aaannnddd, I got one of only two copies in all of Carbondale. I checked out Barnes & Noble on Saturday but it wasn’t on the shelf. I thought that was odd. Maybe though, there were a ton of Hellsing fans out there that knew when it was being released? More than likely, the staff didn’t put them out since they received them. The answer is (ding-ding-ding) they were too damn lazy to put them on the shelf. Hooray me! So, they only ordered two copies. If you want a copy of Hellsing Volume 7, there still might be one at Barnes and Noble.

Man, that just isn’t right. I was standing there at Barnes & Noble – scanning the shelves of pitifully few manga – and I realized that WaldenBooks is truly gone. It was like realizing that you didn’t know what you had till it’s gone. Damn! WaldenBooks had such a huge selection…and they’re never coming back! :(

University Mall is planning on building more teenybopper stores along the lines of Limited Thinking or Rue the 21st Day. I really don’t know what they’re putting there, but they put WaldenBooks out of business.

I plan on re-reading Hellsing Volume 7 a third time and let it all sink in before I post more thoughts on the subject. I usually read it very quickly the first time, a little slower the second time and then really stretch out all the words and scan every little detail the third. It was worth the wait, but now it’s gonna be a few months (possibly a year) for the next one. Damn!

I was exposed to anime as a child while living in Germany after watching the Japanese version of Hans Christian Anderson’s the Little Mermaid. In high school, a classmate in art brought in Akira as an example of Japanese art. I wasn’t very impressed with anime at the time, but my re-exposure to it in 2000 thanks to Escaflowne had me hooked for life. After sorting out what I liked about anime (great stories, beautiful animation and epic battles) and disliked about anime (big boobs, angst-y 15 year-old kids, most mecha, sports stories and style-over-substance), I got into it with a vengeance.I do love almost all aspects of Japanese culture and try to be involved with it as much as possible. I have no problem admitting that I incorporate a lot of Japanese trends and traditions into my life as I modify them and make them my own. Anime is a big part of that, along with all the sub-cultures, past and present.
