I love anime. Specifically, series involving any of the following things: weird fantasy elements, super-powers, robots, aliens, wicked humor, crazy villains, horror, ninjas and samurai. I guess that means I like a lot of anime. I am pretty particular about the quality of animation and voice acting. If the character designs and animation quality aren't of über-quality, I quickly loose interest. The first anime-related series I ever watched was Battle of the Planets - otherwise known as Gatachman. The first true theatrical anime feature film I saw was Akira. My first exposure to manga was later in life when I read Osamu Tezuka's Astro Boy.There are so many incredible elements of Japanese culture. Some of the most exciting to me are the style of design and storytelling. I'm a web designer & illustrator, and I find myself looking to Japanese design for inspiration all the time.Anime blogging has taught me even more about Japanese culture and anime than I ever expected, and I continue to learn more every week. In fact, I'd love to travel to Japan. Rachel and I hope to visit sometime within the next few years.

Though in the beginning my favorite was L, before I knew it, my favorite character became none other than the lead character, Light Yagami/Kira.

He’s my favorite because in watching the series he tapped into the darkest corners of the viewers mind. He showed just how twisted and manipulative a person could become when they possessed unearthly power.

Watching his progression from a seemingly noble cause, to pure, power-hungry insanity. With every well-thought plan, every twist, turn, and setback I found my own heart racing and I became rather emotionally attached to the character and his struggle.

You end up asking yourself if you’d be any different if you were in his position.

His character is rich and deep, in the darkest and most forbidden ways… he really draws a lot of excitement from the viewer (or me at least) and therefor, he’s my favorite.

My favorite character was L. L was the perfect opponent for Light. I felt that Light was very smug and felt he had life and the world as a whole figured out. Light felt unstoppable until L came into the picture. My favorite moments in the anime is when L would perfect counter Light. Seeing Light’s frustration was the best. I feel that between Light and L, L was was strategically superior. The only reason Light was a to “defeat” L is because Light new information that L had no way of knowing. Near and Mello were L’s ultimate counter measure. As an intelligent as Near was, he would not have beaten Light without L setting the table .

My favorite was have to be unmistakably Light Yagami. Throughout the manga and the anime, his character took a unique and very much unexpected turn. In it, he faces numerous situations that trialed his views and may have made him change from a killer focused soley on playing the role of god to those that he viewed as “sinners.” However, through and through he remained diligent to his beliefs.

It has got to be Light’s dad. To be that determined to catch his mark is something to be proud of.

My favorite is L, tough i secretly always wanted Kira to win i realized that L always was one step ahead, he couldn’t do things his way, otherwise Kira would’ve been fried within the very first 5 volumes.

Amane Misa for me because she is voiced by Hirano Aya. Yes, a very shallow reason, but i was never really attached to the characters but rather the atmosphere of the show.
