And no, I’m not referring to Ghost In The Shell: Innocence. This time, it’s something of an updated version…ala Star Wars Special Edition™. But do fans want it?

Ghost in the Shell 2.0 will include new visual effects, a new dubbing and a rerecorded 6.1 soundtrack. It will be shown in selected Japanese cinemas starting July, 12, 2008. – blog.affenheimtheater.de
You’ll also see a teaser trailer for Ghost In The Shell 2.0 on the website. Thanks to TwitchFilm for the head’s up!
What do you think of a revamped Ghost In The Shell movie?

I love anime. Specifically, series involving any of the following things: weird fantasy elements, super-powers, robots, aliens, wicked humor, crazy villains, horror, ninjas and samurai. I guess that means I like a lot of anime. I am pretty particular about the quality of animation and voice acting. If the character designs and animation quality aren't of über-quality, I quickly loose interest. The first anime-related series I ever watched was Battle of the Planets - otherwise known as Gatachman. The first true theatrical anime feature film I saw was Akira. My first exposure to manga was later in life when I read Osamu Tezuka's Astro Boy.There are so many incredible elements of Japanese culture. Some of the most exciting to me are the style of design and storytelling. I'm a web designer & illustrator, and I find myself looking to Japanese design for inspiration all the time.Anime blogging has taught me even more about Japanese culture and anime than I ever expected, and I continue to learn more every week. In fact, I'd love to travel to Japan. Rachel and I hope to visit sometime within the next few years.
I’d only be some interested in seeing it if there was new story content / scenes. Is that going to be the case? Prettier animation and revamped sound aren’t enough for me to want to watch the movie (again).
The thing about the original Ghost in the Shell was that is was brilliant to whoever watched it for the first time. Sure it might attract a whole new generation of people to anime but for those of us who watched it before, unless it’s like a directors cut or something, there is nothing new about it. Its greatest attraction was its philosophical backdrop which I think was too intense for such a short movie.
Give us Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex 3rd Gig, with our beloved Tachikomas. Then we’ll eat it up in a second.
nckl – It sounds like there’s not gonna be much for expanded story. This is just some enhanced animation and sound, from what I’ve heard.
Kamigoroshi – I agree – it is brilliant. I suspect it’s motivated by Hollywood’s intention to make a live-action version.
If the situation was similiar to Akira’s original North American release then things would be different. Obviously though the original release of Ghost in The Shell gave us a very high quality version of the film with (if you listen to english dubs) a very good english soundtrack and excellent dolby support.
It’s sounds to me like this might be an attempt to roll out a new package and flog some additional sales … which would help the case for David’s comment above about a live action version.
I wonder how the intellectual property rights were handled?
I have Ghost in the Shell SAC 1 and 2 in my site.. I don’t know about this.. But the picture looks cool ^^..
