I was exposed to anime as a child while living in Germany after watching the Japanese version of Hans Christian Anderson’s the Little Mermaid. In high school, a classmate in art brought in Akira as an example of Japanese art. I wasn’t very impressed with anime at the time, but my re-exposure to it in 2000 thanks to Escaflowne had me hooked for life. After sorting out what I liked about anime (great stories, beautiful animation and epic battles) and disliked about anime (big boobs, angst-y 15 year-old kids, most mecha, sports stories and style-over-substance), I got into it with a vengeance.I do love almost all aspects of Japanese culture and try to be involved with it as much as possible. I have no problem admitting that I incorporate a lot of Japanese trends and traditions into my life as I modify them and make them my own. Anime is a big part of that, along with all the sub-cultures, past and present.

  3. M-boy

    Uhhh, errr, bonta-kun?

  4. Josh

Agreed. The Moyashimon ~Tales of Agriculture~ microbes for the win.

I have a soft spot for Ryo-Ohki who is sort of a cross between a cat and a rabbit…and she is commonly called a cabbit. However, depending on which Tenchi Muyo! alternity you choose, she can also be a spaceship, a mecha, or a magical girl’s familiar.

cute and cuddley is all I need, but I also love Excel Saga’s ‘aliens’

  7. griever

I probably would have also said cats, but the entire cast of Hamtaro wins. Kids show, I know, but it’s awesome.

  8. griever

    No, wait, I lied. P-chan!!!

    @ Crisu, cats always=win!

@ CherylHew and Josh, yark! I’ve never seen Moyashimon, but I did Google the microbes. That’s just wrong. Lil’ chibi rhino viruses? Gah, my tummy hurts just looking at the buggers….

@ M-boy, bonta-kun- is that a guy inside a hamster suit? Is he some kind of paramilitary furry?

@ mochi, Ryo-Ohki is super cute but kinda freaky at the same time.

@ demon_from_paradise, those aliens look like hamsters in diapers! ^^

@ griever, Hamtaro, I can understand. But a piggy? However, it is a cutesy piggy…

squirrels are cute, and human-squirrel cute too.
I love pichus, and my liking for them (even anime) was caused by a random dream I had. In the dream I was a wild pichu, I live through a normal day, until a trainer shows up and catches me. (there wasn’t even a battle she just through a pokeball, kinda embarrassing) The strangest thing was how real the dream was, I felt pain whenever i tripped or was hit by another pokemon, I tasted the berries I ate, I had memories of things that happened in my dream that occurred weeks pior to the dream (this was about 5 years of memories).

Okojo-san! He’s an ermine. I love any and all weasels. I go a little farther by saying I love mustela. Unfortunately I’ve only seen two weasels in anime. :( I want MORE!
