In looking back, this year has been filled with some awesome anime series. Some series have been subtle, and tell a rich story without overuse of action or visuals. Some anime have been in-your-face action with high-end visuals and sound. Some anime have even managed to combine the two to create something worthy of the title, “Best“.
Then there’s the anime which sucked so hard, they created a black hole in the anime universe, which even the most fantastic anime could never hope to fill.
I have a few anime I would like to nominate as “Best” for 2007:
- Basilisk: Best Story and Best Character Designs
- Afro Samurai: Best Action and Best Character Designs
- Tekkonkinkreet: Best Anime Feature
- Karas: The Revelation: Best Animation
- Ergo Proxy: Best Science Fiction
For the “Worst” anime of 2007:
- Glass Fleet, Volume One: Worst Character Designs and Worst Story
- Witchblade: Worst Costumes and Use of Boobs
- Trinity Blood: Worst Waste of Animation and Time
I haven’t read enough manga this year to be informed enough to say which is “Best”, but if I had to choose from among the manga I have read in 2007, it would be:
Best Manga:
- The first four volumes of E’S: Best Line Work, Best Story, Best Panel Usage
- Gon: Best Use of the Manga Medium
Worst Manga:
- My Dearest Devil Princess: Worst Story
Best and Worst is all relative and my choices for Best and Worst probably won’t coincide with anybody else’s. Since we have a nifty comment board in which to air opinions, let’s hear a few of everyone’s personal choices for Best and Worst Anime of 2007!
Im only limited to what I see on tv so here it goes. Best anime: Noien, second: Eureka 7. Best manga: Genshiken, Densha Otoko (Trainman). Cant decide between the two. Worst anime: Inuyasha, worst non ending ever, what a waste of my time! Worst manga: I only read good manga. If you havent seen my best picks, you should.
Not really a manga reader(novels and western comics mostly) so here are my picks for best anime: BECK:MCS(music rocks, story is compelling) and Black Lagoon(great dialogue, action). Worst anime: Gunslinger Girl, way to loli for my taste, and missed an opportunity for commentary on crooked governments.
My picks for best anime is:The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (because of the Hare Hare Yukai dance craze!), Naruto Shippuden, Mobile Suit Gundam 00 (the newest gundam series of ‘07!), Code Geass – Lelouch of the Rebellion & Death Note.
but the worst anime i’ve ever seen is Gundam Seed Destiny b’coz some of the scenes & endings are very poor & also some of the new characters are soooo bad (except the others.) like Shinn Asuka (the Hot-headed, Anti-Orb Union, cagali-hater & Wreck havoc pilot of ZAFT), Stellar Loussier (Acts like an innocent girl but she’s also known as a psycotic & a killer!), Meer Campbell (the Flirt & Fake version of Lacus Clyne!) & Gilbert Durandal (b’coz of his boring words of wisdom in the show!) & also the Not so happy Ending Relationship of Athrun Zala & Cagali Yula Atha. well for me.. the truth is i love GSD when its comes to some old characters (like Kira Yamato Lacus Clyne & Muerrue Rammius) & some of the new mobile suits are so cool!
Maybe the best anime of 2007 would be Sketchbook Full Colors? I don’t know, that one really surprised me. Actually, I think this will be remembered as the year of Lucky Star.

@Cody, Gunslinger Girl, way to loli for my taste are you referring to lolicon in Gunslinger Girl? It’s been a while since I watched Gunslinger Girl and I only caught the tail end of the series anywho.

Best Anime 2007 : Code Geass Hangyaku no Lelouch(Japan’s Animage said it so in Animage Grand Prix) and Gundam 00 (Personal View)
I was thinking of Karas: The Prophecy as the worst anime I’ve watched this year. However, i don’t think that would count here. The justifications were to me that it spent too long trying to be stylish but was really disorientating.
I’m tempted to go find Tekkon Kinkreet now given your recommendation.
Basilisk which i started to watch but haven’t got the whole series, seemed a little bit like an Ang Lee movie with multiple storylines. I find that really hard to watch in an anime if they don’t intersect well. It just becomes disorientating.
Best anime 2007: Baccano! and Death Note.

Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann = 2007 Best Anime. Best Gainax series ever, Best Drill Mecha series ever, Most Inspiring Anime ever, and Best Male Character ever (tie between Simon/Kamina)
animes would be Tengen Toppa Gurren Laggan,Sola and Baccano(the most underwatched of the three)
ps:suprisingly enough,the anime of Baccano is an exception of the rule by being much better than the manga(i am not kidding,the anime really is better than the manga)
ps2:in contrary to some people,the animes i talked about were actually made in 2007

I love to watch anime but there are cartooon like Naruto and One Piece who are just horrible. Naruto shows no blood at all which makes the story boring. And everytime the characters fight they get hit or attack and is like nothing happend. All that happends is there shirt rips it shows no blood or scars. Naruto SUCKS!!!!!. One Piece in the beginning was intersesting but it soon got boring. One Piece is too long they fight and fight when will this cartoon ever end just find the stupid treasure and end this pathetic gay cartoon it it just wasting space in toonami.
mangas teens must read are D- grayman, black cat, prince of Tennis, Hunter x Hunter, Togari, claymore they are AWSOME you must check them out screw naruto, one piece, love hina and all those emo boring romantic shitty manga they have out there.
