To date, there are zero mechs roaming the planet. Also to date; zero magic wands and no mysterious blue amulets imbued with powerful forces. There’s as yet, no fun new technology capable of taking us to stars and we’re still coming up empty in the giant sword department. However, there is a surplus of wishful thinking.
In anime, there’re plenty of fanciful props which are either center stage or in the peripheries. Mechs are common, as are strange magical implements able to transform ordinary girls into the magical variety (and get them naked to boot). The imaginative technology in anime is awe inspiring, if not very practical. And it seems there’s always something in anime that’s legendary and powerful, capable of phenomenal feats…if said legendary artifact are activated by the chosen one who has the power to activate it, yadda, yadda, and so on and so forth.
Don’t you wish you had some of the toys the anime characters play with? Some people already pretend they do have some of the same props as anime. Take the death note for example. Anime fans are writing names of enemies in notebooks, just like Light in the Death Note manga. That’s just creepy and not quite right, especially in today’s society, when doing something like that can get you suspended or worse.
Me, I’d want something happy and cheery from anime to be a reality. Like maybe an amulet that leads me to another world, like in Escaflowne. Or the Net from Ghost In the Shell. Something that’s exciting but not too profound or life changing. Props which are profound and life changing have a nasty habit of backfiring.
What’s a fantasy or sci-fi anime prop you’d like to see in the real world? A giant robot to do your yard work? A magic wand so you can have all sorts of fun magical girl powers? Or is something simple, like say a trans-dimensional teleporter? Which anime prop would you like to see a reality?

Have you seen Dennou Coil? I would want a virtual reality + a pair of those glasses. Well, I bet we’ll have something similar in a few decades anyway.
Definitely mechs
Here is my wishlist
1- A Valkyrie (MACROSS), that should be cool!
2- The ability to use the clow cards (Card Captor Sakura)
3- I must agree with super rats, a real Angelic Layer angel and be able to enter in tournaments.
4- A mecha, like Gundam or Evangelion, but I wonder if the Eva go berserk.
5- Some special transport for humanity to travel to other worlds. Earth is getting smaller and warmer with all the people.
6- A real Transformer should be cool to see.
7- I think the last thing I could wish for myself is a DORAEMON. That cat can give you any prop you want.

@anime fan, haven’t seen Dennou Coil yet. As for the glasses, it’s tough to say what futuristic technology will be a reality. In 1950, we all figured we’d be living on the moon….

@ViciousWarGoose, I’ve been reading a lot of contemporary speculative sci-fi lately. Many authors seem to agree in the future bodies will be pointless and our minds will be just so much software. Yikes!
